INVOKE was our only runner on Wednesday and she was taking her chance at Salisbury. She raced upsides the winner for a long way before it quickened away from her. She was no match for the winner, but she still beat the remainder of the field fairly well and hopefully we will be able to find a winning opportunity for her shortly.
On Thursday we started the afternoon At Yarmouth with MARWEENA. She was held up in touch in the last pair and was ridden and asked for her effort two furlongs out. She chased the leaders and was driven, but could find no extra and weakened inside the final furlong. Later on the card course and distance winner HOT MUSTARD was hoping to get his head back in front after his disappointing Ayr run. He looked a little keen early on and then came under pressure over two furlongs out. Although he got to the winner’s quarters inside the last furlong, he was always being held from that point. At Leicester THATCHEREEN gave another good account of herself without getting her head in front. She was staying on late to claim the minor honours. She appears to appreciate this faster ground and has the capacity to win off this mark. Our last runner was HALA HALA at Hamilton. I do not think she was given the best of rides as she was up with the pace early on and was then pulled right back to sit second last. When asked for her effort she did not get the break required and finished down the field.
Today we have FASHION LINE running at Newmarket. The rain will not have helped her chances, but she appears in good form and hopefully she will be competitive.
Tomorrow we have declared SHANTI at Salisbury. He is running over a mile and six for the first time. He has the benefit of being run without starting stalls which we think will suit him and he will wear a hood for the first time.
