FRIDAY 1ST MAY

The horses seem to have a bit of a sticky patch at present. Yesterday we had two runners and the first of these was BUSSELL ALONG at Folkestone. She looked to be travelling quite nicely at the rear of the field and when asked to quicken she did not appear to find anything and was soon eased. We will see how she is over the next couple of days before making further plans for. THOMAS BAINES was an odd on favourite at Yarmouth and I am always uneasy when we have odds on favourites because in all the time I have worked here I can never remember us having an odds on winner. He never looked happy after another tardy start and just seemed to hang and carry his head carraige very high when under pressure. He definitely has plenty of ability and possibly could be suited by easier ground. I am not sure what the plan is with him now but he could possibly be gelded before his next run.

We have no runners today but we have two tomorrow at Newmarket. FOOLIN MYSELF looks to have a chance in the Suffolk Stakes, the handicap over a mile and one furlong although the ground looks as though it is going to be on the firm side of good which will not possibly help and and later on the card we have the nice filly AUNT NICOLA running in the handicap over seven furlongs. She has been working nicely with STEEL FREE and so hopefully she will give a good account of herself here.

On Sunday we have only the one runner when MONEYCANTBUYMELOVE returns to the track at Newmarket where she ran so well in the sales race at the craven meeting. She looks to have a good chance and hopefully in a field of eight runners she can show herself to good effect.

WEDNESDAY 29TH APRIL

On Monday we had the three runners at Windsor and we quietly fancied HALFWAY HOUSE to run a big race. He got completely bogged down in the ground as sadly the rain had arrived at the wrong time for him and we are sure he will be seen to better effect on the faster surface. Later on the card we had LADY ARTEMISIA and she got quite upset in the preliminaries after spreading a plate and whilst having the shoe put back on she got upset and hit our traveling head girl on the head. This caused a nasty little cut and while Gill had to sit the rest of the evening out LADY ARTEMISIA went on to run a nice race. She was always up with the leaders and seemed to get a bit tired approaching the final two furlongs but stayed on well to get eighth. She will have learned a lot from this and could be a nice filly. It was great to see ADVISOR finally break his maiden tag. He has shown shown plenty of promise in two starts at this distance last year and seemed to have come on a lot for his run at Yarmouth earlier in the month. He was ridden with plenty of confidence from the rear and was driven right out at the end. He looks as though he might get a bit further and we will see how the handicapper assess him.

Yesterday it was great to see BAHAMIAN BABE run a good race. She is a tough little filly and with a bad draw of sixteen she ran a good race to catch fifth place. Sadly there are a shortage of five furlong races for her at present but she could now head to Ayr for a five furlong fillies race but that is not until the 20th June.

Today we have only the two runners after the early withdrawal of MOYENNE CORNICHE due to the firm ground. That left us with runners at Pontefract. The first of these was LOMBOK who ran an encouraging race and he looks as though he will stay further. He is learing all the time as he is still very green. He has now had three runs and we will see how the handicap rates him before making plans for him. SUMMERS LEASE looked as though she may have just needed the race as she was traveling well until two out and just did not quicken. She may also be better over a mile.

Tomorrow we have runners at Folkestone when BUSSELL ALONG makes her seasons debut and we are hopeful of a good run from her. She has been going well at home. Also we have THOMAS BAINES who was desperately unlucky last time when he got in all sorts of trouble and hopefully Jamie will have better luck in running on him here .

PROMPTER, WIGMORE HALL AND ACTIVATE

These were a nice bunch of two-year-olds to work up the peat moss and they are all starting to really come to themselves. They will probably be ready for a run when the six or seven furlong races come out.

BABYCAKES AND MISS WHIPPY

I really liked these two fillies and they worked really well together. BABYCAKES is a nice filly by Marju and she is well liked by those who ride her. MISS WHIPPY is by Whipper and again she is much liked.

MADAME ROULIN AND BINTHERE DUNTHAT

It was nice to have Andrew Elliott who is a good northern jockey in to ride work and he rode the nice two-year-old filly MADAME ROULIN who is not far off a run. BINTHERE DUNTHAT has really improved of late and she worked well.

SYRIAN AND SOUL HEAVEN

I really like SOUL HEAVEN and he is not far off a run he worked very nicely with SYRIAN who was watched by some of his owners on the Highclere owners day.

AUNT NICOLA and STEEL FREE

STEEL FREE worked very well ahead of her possible participation at at Chester on the 8th May. AUNT NICOLA looks in good form and she looks as though she will head to Newmarket at the weekend.

PIQUANTE BETONY and RED ZOE

It was nice to see this trio work nicely together and BETONY looks to have got over her niggley little problems and she worked well with the improving RED ZOE. PIQUANTE is pencilled in to run at Nottingham on the 8th May.

BRAE HILL and LOCHAN MOR

It was good to see BRAE HILL back to his best and he worked well with LOCHAN MOR. Both have entries coming up and look to be in good form

BUBSES BOY and GASSIN

Our final group to work consisted of BUBSES BOY who looks to have put his dissapointing run at Southwell behind him working well with GASSIN who is improving all the time after a few problems.

MONDAY 27TH APRIL

The horses are all running really well but sadly without having a lot of luck and winning. We had three runners on Saturday at Leicester and of these we really fancied FARMER GILES to run a big race. He has clearly progressed since his last run and raced up with the pace, but sadly was caught and had to settle for second place. He was still a bit green when asked to stride on near the finish but it was a good run and a better draw  would certainly have helped him. Surely a maiden win is not to far away. ORBITOR clearly found the ground to firm for his liking and when asked to quicken he struggled to go with the other two. Hopefully he will start to get his ground with the rain that is around at present. ROYAL BET was another who struggled with the ground and was a bit panicked at the start in the stalls. Micky Fenton has suggested he wears a hood next time as he feels this will help keep him settled. Also a step up in trip may be on the cards for him as this should also suit him.

On Sunday we had The Betchworth Kid running. Our horse was well suited by the soft ground and he looked to have every chance from three furlongs out. He was vying for the lead before the winner took control and he kept on wel and only just lost out to second place.

Today we have three runners at Windsor where we have high hopes with HALFWAY HOUSE and ADVISOR. Both having been working nicely at home and we expect them to give good accounts of themselves. We also run a nice filly called LADY ARTEMISIA who has been working nicely. She is still quite green but we are confident of a big run from her.

On Tuesday our only runner is the sweet little filly BAHAMIAN BABE who has headed of to Bath. She has been going nicely at home and the girl that rides her Vicky Nicholls expects to run a good race. Hopefully she will not be to inconvenienced by the draw of sixteen.

FRIDAY 24TH APRIL

We are still on the trail for that elusive winner to get us going again and sadly it did not happen with our runners yesterday. NIGHT KNIGHT found the ground a bit to lively for him at Beverley and last night we had SOFONISBA running at Southwell. She struggled to go through the very deep surface and sadly did not act on the track. They have both returned in good order and we will see how they are before making further plans for them.

We have a busy weekend with three runners at Leicester tomorrow. FARMER GILES makes his reappearance and we are hoping he shows in his run the effort he has been putting in at home. Last time out at the track he seemed to completely forget what was expected of him and certainly did not run in the way we had expected. We think he will give a much better effort of himself tomorrow. ORBITOR looks to have a good chance in a four runner field and as long as he does not find the under foot conditions to firm he will take all the beating. Finally we have a nice colt by Montjeu running called ROYAL BET. He was in training with Sir Michael Stoute last season. He ran only the once at the backend of the season for this yard and finished towards the rear of the field. He has been putting in some decent efforts in his work so hopefully he will run with some promise.

THE BETCHWORTH KID leaves in the early hours of the morning to head to Navan for a listed race. He will have to face the mighty YEATS but hopefully if the racecourse gets the rain that is forecast the race will hopefully be more suited by our horse who will love the testing conditions. He has been in good form at home since his second at Nottingham so we really hope that he can run really well especially as some of his owners are traveling to the track to see him run.

WEDNESDAY 22ND APRIL

The horses worked on the Peat Moss gallop this morning We could really do with some rain now as the ground seems to be getting quite firm at present.

The first horse to come up the gallop was BAHAMIAN BABE who worked on her own over a straight five furlongs. She worked well and is on target for the Listed race at Bath on Tuesday.

BAHAMIAN BABE

LOCHAN MOR AND SECRET SOCIETY

The second group to work was SECRET SOCIETY with LOCHAN MOR. SECRET SOCIETY looks in really good order and it was an encouraging effort from LOCHAN MOR who is really starting to come together.

THE BETCHWORTH KID AND KIRK SESSION

THE BETCHWORTH KID did and easy piece of work here helping educate KIRK SESSION who is a fine looking horse but is still very inexperienced. They worked well together and THE BETCHWORTH KID now will head for Navan well he will probably end up taking on Yeats in the listed Vintage Crop Stakes.

MOYENNE CORNICHE

Sadly MOYENNE CORNICHE had to miss his intended race at Doncaster due to the firm ground and we will now have to pray for some rain before we see him on the track He looks in really good order.

ADVISOR AND SUMMERS LEASE

ADVISOR looks to have taken his race at Yarmouth well and he worked nicely in partnership with the filly SUMMERS LEASE who was withdrawn from her intended race at Doncaster on Saturday due to the firm ground.

RED ZOE MISS EZE AND BUSSELL ALONG

RED ZOE is really starting to come to herself and she worked well with MISS EZE and BUSSELL ALONG over the straight seven furlongs. These three fillies are not far off runs but we have made no entries for them at present.

HALFWAY HOUSE AND ROYAL BET

This group was a group of four working over the straight six and three furlongs round the bend. I was taking pictures after they had gone a straight five and so sadly ORBITOR and BIN END who had been settled in behind ROYAL BET did not get into the picture. All four horses worked well together and HALFWAY HOUSE is entered at Windsor on Monday. ORBITOR could head to leicester on Saturday where hopefully he should have a good chance and also ROYAL BET who is really starting to come to himself is also entered in a later race at the track. BIN END has swerved the race at Sandown and he looks like heading to York in about three weeks time.

MOGGY AND LADY ARTEMISIA

The final group to work were MOGGY and LADY ARTEMISIA who was ridden by Hayley Turner. LADY ARTEMISIA is entered at Wolverhampton on Saturday but at this stage looks like heading for Windsor on Monday. MOGGY who is starting to really take shape also worked well and she is also entered at Wolverhampton on Saturday and she has also has been entered today for Tuesday at Nottingham.

Today we have seen a really good effort from MEZZANISI who finished second. He seemed to be hanging inside the final furlong and Jamie tried everything to get him home first but sadly just could not get him up. It was a real decent effort and we are pleased with our horse. We have just seen ALLIED POWERS run and he ran well on ground that would have been  more than firm for him. He put in a good effort and will be better for the run and hopefully we will soon get some rain which will also enhance his chances.

It has been an amazing day today as we welcomed a Royal Visitor to the yard. Her Majesty the Queen came to Newmarket today and paid her first visit to Fitzroy House. It was great. to meet her and hopefully she will find the time to visit again in the not to distant future.

TUESDAY 21ST APRIL

ALLIED POWERS

Well we have drawn a blank at Southwell this afternoon with EDDIE BOY and BUBSES BOY. EDDIE BOY looked at one stage as though he was going to possibly win but he got caught inside the final last couple of furlongs. He looks as though he may just benefit from a VISOR next time which we feel will help his cause. BUBSES BOY looked as though he may not have stayed in the deep Southwell track. Jamie felt that he will be better over a mile and a quarter on the turf as he did not seem to like the all weather surface.

REDFORD

We have declared SOFONISBA at Southwell on Thursday where we are hopeful that she will give a good account of herself and also we have declared NIGHT KNIGHT to run at Beverley where hopefully he will run a nice race. Both have done really well for the winter break they have had over the winter so hopefully we will have a good day.

FOOLIN MYSELF

It was really great today to see Hayley Turner back in the saddle after she was declared fit to start riding out again. It was really great to have her back and hopefully it will not be too long before she can get back on the track.

HAYLEY TURNER AND MADAME ROULIN

MONDAY 20TH APRIL

We had a busy weekend on Saturday with sadly no winners but some good encouraging runs. The first of these came at Newbury where we had two runners. SARISKA ran a good race at Newbury and she was definitely on the unlucky side. She missed the break and was then blocked in when she made her run and had to be switched. She stayed on nicely and will be seen to much better effect over further with the benefit of this run. The Musidora could be on the agenda next and, depending on how she does there, the Oaks might be the target although she is still in the Guineas. FOOLIN MYSELF was another who put in a good effort after a year of the track .He beat Tartan Bearer as a two-year-old and so he definitely has ability. Racing off a mark of 85 he was sent off favourite and traveled well for a long way in the race. When asked to quicken he did not find as much as we had hoped and he kept on going at the same pace to finish fourth. It was a good effort from the horse and hopefully he will find plenty improvement for the race. We were left with only one runner at Doncaster after the withdrawal of SUMMERS LEASE due to the firm ground and this was LOMBOK. He has not shown that much at home but he ran a really decent race and we were pleased with him He is still quite green and only really got going in the later stages of the race and proved to be reluctant to pull up crossing the line. He is sure to come on for the run as he is still learning and he obviously appreciates the step up in trip. Our final runner was at Nottingham where GARTER KNIGHT made a promising handicap debut. He was held up for the early part of the race and made headway over two furlongs out. He led coming into the final furlong but was soon forced right when headed and was staying on at the same pace and was short of room near the finish. It was a pleasing run and hopefully he will come on from this.

Yesterday we had only ACT GREEN running and we thought she had a really good chance. Sadly she was unable to run and had to be withdrawn which was really frustrating.

Today we have seen THOMAS BAINES run and we feel he should have won comfortably. He was always travelling best of all but never got the gaps and had to sit and suffer. It was very dissapointing as we really fancied him.

On Tuesday we have declared EDDIE BOY and BUBSES BOY at Southwell and they should both have good chances. On Wednesday we have ALLIED POWERS and MEZZANISI running at Epsom and some more rain would certainly improve ALLIED POWERS chances. It is really warm at present so hopefully the ground will not dry out to much at the track.

We have made various entries at the weekend with possible runners at Leicester and Wolverhampton. We also have entered THE BETCHWORTH KID at Navan and if he runs he will head of to Ireland early Saturday morning. Also entered abroad at the weekend is GREAT CHARM in Cologne but his race on paper looks to be quite a tough little contest.

SATURDAY 18TH APRIL

Well we have declared Thomas Baines for Monday at Windsor. He looks to have come on from is run at the track earlier in the month so fingers crossed for another good run. On Tuesday we look like having BUBSES BOY and EDDIE BOY running at Southwell. These are to nice horses and BUBSES BOY will hopefully make amends from his previous start where he was very unlucky in running. EDDIE BOY is in good form and should run well.

Today the horses worked up the Summer Gallop again. LOCHAN MOR looks to have put his problems behind him and he strided out well in a solo piece of work.

LOCHAN MOR

The next group to come up was RED ZOE who looks to be coming on well and the nice filly MISS EZE who worked really well in this group. AUNT NICOLA finished well with the group but may just have found the ground a bit to quick for her.

RED ZOE, MIISS EZE AND AUNT NICOLA

MOGGY worked well with SOFONISBA who is entered at Southwell on Thursday and LADY ARTEMESIA who is not far of the entry stage. All three filles worked well together.

SOFONISBA, MOGGY AND LADY ARTEMESIA

ALLIED POWERS put in a good effort leading MEZZANISI who also worked well. They are both entered at Epsom on Wednesday but will probably need some rain.

ALLIED POWERS AND MEZZANISI

Our final group to work was a group of four three year olds and NIGHT KNIGHT went nicely leading this group. He is entered at Beverley on Thursday and looks to be in good form. BUBSES BOY and EDDIE BOY were settled in nicely in behind and the promising BIN END sat towards the rear. This was a good piece of work and all have entries coming up this week.

FRIDAY 17TH APRIL

Well it has been quite an afternoon for the staff at Fitzroy House with a lot of our horses that have big entries running. I am sure FOUR WINDS groom Matthew Morgan was nervous when he met Her Majesty the Queen at Newbury this afternoon as she came to the paddock to see her horse. FOUR WINDS ran a nice race for his first outing of the season. He made all but was caught close home by the only filly in the race HIGH HEELED which looks a decent filly. We will see how our horse has taken the race before deciding what the best option is for him.  STEEL FREE is a very well bred filly who due to some minor problems failed to get to the track last season. Again she looked as though she was the winner inside the last furlong but just got pegged back inside the final half furlong. She ran a very encouraging race and will be a nice filly for the rest of the season. PIQUANTE is another who gave a good account of herself for her first outing of the year finishing fourth. She looked as though she was going really well two out but may have just got a bit tired in the final furlong and had to settle for fourth place. She is a nice filly and I am sure her breaking her maiden tag will not be to ar in the distant future.

We have a busy weekend with our Guineas entry SARISKA taking her chance in the Fred Darling Stakes. She has been working nicely at home and hopefully after the race we will have a better idea of where we are heading with her. Also on the card at Newbury we have the one time Derby fancy FOOLIN MYSELF running. He missed his three year old career but looks to be back to his best. Hopefully he will give a good account of himself here but he will certainly benefit from the run. At Doncaster evening meeting we have the good looking Pivotal filly SUMMERS LEASE running. We are hopeful of a good run but the ground will need to be suitable for her to give her best effort. Also on the card we have LOMBOK who is somewhat of a unknown quantity. He ran once last season for Geoff Wragg finishing towards the rear of the field at Newmarket on his only start. We have been pleased with how he has been working at home so hopefully he will show some promise here. Finally we have GARTER KNIGHT running in a handicap for the first time at Nottingham. He is a progressive horse and it will be interesting how he handles himself in handicap class.

Sunday we just have the one runner ACT GREEN running at Lingfield. She has wintered really well and looks to have strengthened upl. She will hopefully run well as she is certainly thought a lot of at home.

WEDNESDAY 15TH APRIL

On Monday we had Advisor running at a very misty Yarmouth. He ran quite keen early on and took a while to settle. He looked as though he would have a decent chance with two left to run but just dropped away inside the final furlong to finish fifth. He is now eligible for handicaps and hopefully this is the route to go with him.

Today we have just seen MONEYCANTBUYMELOVE run and I have to say what a decent effort she gave of herself. She was settled at the rear and was unlucky that every gap she went for was shut of to her and she still managed to make up a lot of ground to get fifth place. It was a really good run as she would have been much closer had she got the clear passage through in what looked to be a decent field of runners. ART CONNOISSEUR was always up with pace but when asked to go up the rail his run was blocked  and he had to settle for seventh. He is much better than this so hopefully he will show his best form when he runs next time. He was giving a lot of weight away to the other runners which is always a tough thing to do. Later in the day we have DOVE MEWS running and hopefully she will change our fortune this afternoon but the ground maybe just a little to lively for her.

Thursday we have declared REDFORD to run and we are hoping that we get a decent amount of rain as this will definitely help his chances. On Friday it is exciting as we have three runners that we think have a lot of potential. The first of these to run is FOUR WINDS who is our only Derby entry left. He runs in the conditions race and has been in terrific form at home. Hopefully he will give a good account of himself. STEEL FREE is a filly that was kept off the track last year and has been really impressing at home in her work. She will definitely benefit from the run  and will learn a lot from her racecourse debut, but we like her very much and hopefully she will give a good account in what looks to be a tough little contest. Our last runner of the day is the nice filly PIQUANTE who holds an entry in both the Italian and English Oaks. She finished fourth in a fillies maiden at Leicester at the back end of last year and she appears to have done really well over the winter. We like her and hope she runs well in another strong fillies maiden.

The work this morning was a bit of a disaster picture wise as we had quite larger groups of horses working together than normal and so it was hard to get all the horses in the picture.

The first group to come up was GASSIN and GARTER KNIGHT and they worked well over the straight seven. GARTER KNIGHT is due to run at Nottingham on Saturday and at present we have no plans for GASSIN.

GARTER KNIGHT AND GASSIN

The next group to come up was FARMER GILES and THOMAS BAINES and I am still really surprised watching him work how badly FARMER GILES ran. He looked good in his work again today as did THOMAS BAINES who could run on Saturday evening at Nottingham or Monday evening at Windsor, At this stage he looks likely to head to Nottingham.

FARMER GILES AND THOMAS BAINES

SOUL HEAVEN and PROMPTER look to be prominsing two-year-olds and they worked well being joined by one of our old assistant Amy Weaver's horses. These are two nice colts who are certainly heading in the right direction.

PROMPTER AND SOUL HEAVEN

BAHAMAIN BABE did a nice solo piece of work ahead of her intended run and she looked in good form as she came back along the summer gallop working a straight five furlongs.

BAHAMIAN BABE

Our only other group consisted of four working the straight six furlongs and then three round the bend. Sadly MEZZANISI was settled out the back when he passed me so he did not make it in the picture. LOMBOK who is due to run at Doncaster on Saturday night set a nice pace followed by the improving SPEAKERS CORNER and the nice Montjeu colt ROYAL BET. They all finished well together and they all look as though they are really starting to blossom in this nice weather we are having.

LOMBOK, SPEAKERS CORNER AND ROYAL BET

We were all devasted after hearing poor Hayley's bad news yesterday. She is such an important part of the Fitzroy team and has worked so hard to get where she is that it really does not seem fair that she has to take the next year off from racing riding. At least though she is fit and well again and I am sure she will return better than ever.

MONDAY 13TH APRIL

The quiet spell seems to at last be over and we have today made eleven entries for the weekend and so the season really has hit full swing now. On Saturday we had just the one runner GREAT CHARM and he did not look to be at home on the track at Kempton. He took a keen hold and chased the leaders until he weakened quickly approaching final two furlongs. We know he is better than this, so this run is best forgotten. He seems to have taken the race well and we will see how he is over the next few days before making further plans.

Today we have ADVISOR who is our only runner, running today at Yarmouth. he has been going nicely in his homework and so we expect him to run well. He ran two fairly good races last season but was very green and immature and we expect him to be a lot better this season as he has matured well over the winter.

We have no runners tomorrow and then we get back to the action with three at Newmarket on Wednesday. The first of these is MONEYCANTBUYMELOVE who ran well in the two-year-old version of the race finishing fourth last season. She has done well over the winter and hopefully she will give a good account of herself in this nineteen runner field. Also on the card we are delighted to see the re-appearance of ART CONNOISSEUR. He worked nicely on Saturday and hopefully he will show he is back to his best although on his two-year-old form he is giving plenty of weight to the other runners. Finally later in the day we have DOVE MEWS running and she has been putting in some decent homework and looks in terrific form. We like this filly a lot as she is a tough little lady with a good attitude. Hopefully Wednesday will prove to be a good day for the Fitzroy team.

Thursday could see the reappearance of REDFORD who has been entered in the Abernant Stakes which is a listed race over six furlongs at Newbury. He now seems to be in tip top order after missing his race at Doncaster on the opening day of the season. Also on Thursday ALLIED POWERS has been entered in the Ripon Silver Bowl. He has been in great form at home and he was due to run at Pontefract a fortnight ago but the current dry conditions that we have been having scuppered this. Hopefully he will get his chance to run but it will be dependent on the rain arriving which they are forecast to get. Hopefully it will be enough!

WEDNESDAY 8TH APRIL

THE BETCHWORTH KID was our only runner today and he gave a really good account of himself. He would certainly have appreciated the ground a lot softer than it was so it really was a good effort from our horse. The winner looks to be a really nice individual so it would be nice to meet him again on softer conditions.

Today the horses worked up the Summer Gallop which had been opened after the very dry spell that we have been having. The weather had brightened up and it was a good morning to watch work as we had our Guineas entry ART CONNOISSEUR working and or Derby entry FOUR WINDS working.

The first group to come up was DOVE MEWS and BAHAMIAN BABE. These two fillies went well together. DOVE MEWS seems to have done really well for her winter break and she could possibly run in a handicap at the Craven Meeting down here at Newmarket. BAHAMIAN BABE is another who looks to be coming to hand and she could head for listed race at Bath later in the month.

DOVE MEWS AND BAHAMIAN BABE

GREAT CHARM who had to miss his intended race at Doncaster at the beginning of the season did a solo piece of work up the gallops and he looked to be striding put well ahead of his possible outing on Saturday at Kempton where a decision on if he will run will be made in the morning.

GREAT CHARM

Our recent Lingfield winner SECRET SOCIETY worked over a straight seven furlongs with ART CONNOISSEUR. Both horses seemed in good order and finished nicely up the rising ground together. ART CONNOISSEUR is another who is pencilled in to run at the Craven Meeting. I am not sure where SECRET SOCIETY is heading next but he seems to have come on for the run.

SECRET SOCIETY AND ART CONNOISSEUR

MOYENNE CORNICE was another who went on his own under our head lad Richard Simpson and he moved really well up the gallops. He could possibly head to Doncaster on the 18th April if everything is in his favour.

MOYENNE CORNICHE

ADVISOR worked well in this group ahead of his possible participation in a maiden on Monday at Yarmouth and he worked with GARTER KNIGHT who is definitely coming on and EDDIE BOY, who also holds an entry at Yarmouth on Monday. These looked to be a nice bunch, that hopefully are not far off breaking the maiden tags that they currently hold.

ADVISOR, EDDIE BOY AND GARTER KNIGHT

STEEL FREE is a filly that I really like. She worked well with her partner AUNT NICOLA and they both finished nicely together. Both fillies are not far from a run and STEEL FREE could possibly head for fillies maiden at Newbury on the 17th April.

STEEL FREE AND AUNT NICOLA

RED ZOE and MOGGY are two fillies that are just starting to come to the boil and they worked well in behind a horse of Don Cantillon's. We have no plans for these two that I am aware of at present but they looked in good order.

RED ZOE AND MOGGY (In Behind one of Don Cantillon's)

FOUR WINDS under Jamie Spencer worked well in company with HALFWAY HOUSE working over a straight six furlongs and three round the bend. Both looked in tip top order as they passed me and hopefully it will not be to long before we see them on the track this month.

HALFWAY HOUSE AND FOUR WINDS

MONDAY 6TH APRIL

On Saturday we had only the one runner and that was THE CARLTON CANNES. He ran well  considering it was his first run for six months. Jamie had him tucked away on the inside for much of the way and he certainly was not given much room at any stage of the race. He found a gap in the home straight but seemed to be lacking in speed to take advantage of it. We were certainly pleased with his effort and he will certainly come on from the run.

Today we have seen a much improved effort from one of our two-year-olds which is encouraging. THOMAS BAINES ran really well from a bad draw of stall one. Again like FARMER GILES he ran very green throughout the race but he was given a nice education and finished well. Hopefully it will not be to long before he is winning his maiden.

It is a quiet week up until Easter weekend with our only other runner declared this week being THE BETCHWORTH KID but he will need the forecast rain to come which will help his chances. Finger crossed that it arrives! On Saturday we have made an entry for GREAT CHARM at Kempton and we will see what the race looks like before deciding if he is to take his chance or not.

FRIDAY3RD APRIL

Well sadly we were left scratching our heads after FARMER GILES race at Leicester on Thursday. He had been working so well at home and to run not as wel lwe as expected was a big dissapointment. Thankfully Jamie felt after watching the race you could tell that the horse had run very green and really looked as though he did not know what was expected of him. He had done three bits of work and he's likely to improve a great deal for this experience. Later in the day we did have some good cheer when BIN END went on to win his maiden nicely. This was great for our second head lad Twyron who was leading up his first winner for five years and so at least he has lost his jonah tag. It looked to be quite a decent maiden and our horse seemed to handle this much quicker ground well, although we think he would not want the ground much faster. The step up in trip was always going to suit considering he has a proper middle-distance pedigree. This was a good performance and he looks to have further improvement to come, particularly when he steps up in trip.

Tomorrow we have THE CARLTON CANNES running and he was in training last season with Geoff Wragg. He is a lovely looking colt by Grand Lodge and is a real gentleman. He has been working nicely at home but is still on the burly side and could possibly need the run.

WEDNESDAY 1ST APRIL

Yipee we are finally of the mark when SECRET SOCIETY obliged this afternoon at Lingfield. He was always tracking the favourite which was always the going to be the one to beat. He was given a lovely ride by Tom Queally who is a good strong jockey and he managed to get our horse up to win by a whisker. He will hopefully develop into a nice prospect for the rest of the season. Yesterday we had hoped for a big run from BUBSES BOY but he got into all sorts of trouble and after being up with the pace he got shuffled back and was staying on again at the end.

Tomorrow we have good chances with FARMER GILES and BIN END. FARMER GILES looks to be a sharp two-year-old but he has a tough task against MicK Channons runner who was second in the Brocklesby. We are pleased with how our horses has been going so fingers crossed for a big run. BIN END is our only other runner and I am only hoping that the drying ground will not be to firm for him but again we expect a good run from him if conditions suit.

THOMAS BAINES, TELL HALAF AND MADAME ROULIN

Today the horses worked on the back of the flat again. The horses seem in terrific form and this certainly is the case with THOMAS BAINES who worked very nicely with TELL HALAF and MADAME ROULIN although the camera angle definitely flatters him.

GRAMERCY, COLLECT ART AND FEARLESS FALCON

Our second group of two year olds to work also looked a nice bunch. This consisted of COLLECT ART, GRAMERCY and FEARLESS FALCON. They are certainly going to be better over a longer trip but again they all worked well together.

THE CARLTON CANNES, ALLIED POWERS AND MEZZANISI

Our third group to work consisted of the older horses and I really am getting very fond of THE CARLTON CANNES. He is such a lovely genuine gentleman of a horse and he put in a good piece of work along with ALLIED POWERS and MEZZANISI. THE CARLTON CANNES is entered on Saturday and ALLIED POWERS has an entry on Tuesday at Pontefract.

LOMBOK, SPEAKERS CORNER AND SUMMERS LEASE

LOMBOK is really starting to come to himself and he gave a really nice lead to SPEAKERS CORNER and the very nice SUMMERS LEASE. They all finished really well together and look as though they are all heading in the right direction.

PIQUANTE AND MONEYCANTBUYMELOVE

These two look to be really nice fillies and on the evidence of how they worked today they looked pretty impressive. It was good to see them work well as a lot of the Highclere owners were here to watch. PIQUANTE is being targeted for a maiden at Newbury on the 17th April. MONEYCANTBUYMELOVE could possibly run in the Sales race at Newmarket on the 15th April.

TOP OF THE SCALE, LADY ARTEMISIA AND BUSSELL ALONG

These are three fillies heading in the right direction. TOP OF THE SCALE has certainly improved a lot since her arrival and she quickened up nicely when she met the rising ground. The fillies are really starting to come and if this sunny spell continues then it will definitely help these fillies.
