Henry Ponsonby
Monday 20th February

Firstly apologies for the lack of updates on the website, but I was on holiday last week and I had planned on updating it from the cottage I was staying at in Wales, but sadly the internet connection was non existent which was especially frustrating as I had made the effort to go out and watch the horses go up the Al Bahatri for the first time in the freezing and snowy conditions on the Saturday (11th) before I went.

Sadly there are no winners to report in my absence, but it looks as though it has been a busy week with the three runners. On Wednesday we had been hoping that TWINKLED could make it two out of two for the year after his success at Lingfield a fortnight ago. He took a keen hold and tracked the leader for the first part of the race. He led for well over a furlong from home and was headed inside the final furlong. It was another good effort from the little horse. On Thursday JO BOY again failed to make any impression in his race at Kempton. He tracked the leading group early on and lost his place and was pushed along with two furlongs left to run. He stayed on at the one pace and soon weakened. It is slightly disappointing as he had shown much more at home. On Friday we had the return to the track of DUBAI SUNSHINE who looks to have been harshly treated by the handicapper for his victory at Southwell. Making his handicap debut after winning a maiden where the form has not really worked out, he travelled well behind the leaders but failed to quicken when asked.

Today we have the two runners declared at Wolverhampton and they are RUACANA and STRONG VIGILANCE. RUACANA has always had the making of a nice little horse and he seems to have wintered really well. He could possibly just need the run, but hopefully he will show signs of encouragement. STRONG VIGILANCE is in good form and although we expect him to run well it does not always work out that way with him. He has plenty of ability and will hopefully put it to good use here.

As explained the horses used the Al Bahatri for the first time on Saturday 11th February, it was a cold -12 morning but they all looked in good form and we were impressed with the way that they went.
