It was great to get off the mark for the year when DUBAI SUNSHINE scored a victory at Southwell on Tuesday. It did not look the most competitive of races and our horse put up an improved effort on this his Fibresand debut to win with a fair bit hand. He along with the runner-up, pulled a long way clear of the rest of the field. It was a good victory and we are hoping he will be competitive this season. On Saturday TWINKLED made it two out of two for the week when winning at Lingfield. It was touch and go for a while if Ian Burns would be able to ride him after having his license cancelled whilst he was riding in Australia over Christmas. Thankfully with the help of Joanne Crawforth at the British Horseracing Authority we were able to sort things out and he was able to take the mount. Our horse was returning to the track after a 107-day break and he did enough, despite being committed plenty soon enough. He was edging left under pressure and he now has a record of two from two at Lingfield. He should be capable of winning again and he was not purchased so has returned back to the yard. Later in the day we had declared STRONG VIGILANCE at Wolverhampton but sadly due to the weather the meeting was abandoned.
Newmarket is currently under I would say about five inches of snow in places and hopefully this will not disrupt things to much this week now the horses have resumed cantering. The boss is due back from his holiday tomorrow and so it is always great to get two winners on the board in his absence. We have declared HOLY EMPRESS at Southwell on Tuesday. She was our only worker on the Cambridge Road and she was joined by ROCKA OF MONET and a horse of Amy Weavers. She worked well and hopefully she will be competitive in this grade. It would be great to keep the sequence of winners going!
