On Thursday we were delighted with PARSNIP’S win at Chepstow. She looked green early on and drew away once she had got the message. She looks potentially useful and should have no trouble with further. We then headed in the evening to Epsom with MACHINE LEARNER. He was was no match for the winner, but they did come miles clear of the rest of the field, so it is probably reasonable to assume he has run close to his best in a first-time visor. Hopefully we can now find a race he can win. We rounded off the evening with GOODWOOD MIRAGE at Doncaster. Things did not go his way here and he was caught in a pocket inside the last two furlongs. As soon as he got a clear run the winner had gone beyond recall. It was disappointing for both horse and rider and he is sure to go close next time.

Yesterday we started the day off at Newbury with PURPLE MAGIC. She coped with this faster ground although Eddie Greatrex her jockey, did say afterwards the conditions were quicker than ideal. She was left alone in front and galloped on well to score her win. She looks an exciting prospect who will probably stay further and keeps improving. Our only other runner at Newbury was GIANT REDWOOD. He raced in a prominent position early on and when asked for his effort he faded tamely. He has had a busy week running at Musselburgh last Friday and maybe it has all come too soon for him.  Our only other runner today was DUCK A L’ORANGE who again failed to impress in his race at Pontefract. He is such a good work horse at home; it is so frustrating that he is not recreating it at the track.

Tomorrow we have declared a nice two-year-old filly at Newmarket called JIVE TALKING. She has kept improving since she arrived and looks to be a nice filly. She will probably need the run and will certainly come on for it. Later on the card FRANKLIN D takes his chance and he certainly deserves to get a win by his name after some decent efforts. He appears in good form and should run well. We round off the evening at Lingfield with ALCANAR. He is in good form and did a nice piece of work with PURPLE MAGIC on Wednesday. It would be great to see him put in a decent display.

On Monday THREE DUCHESSES makes the journey to Ayr to take her chance. She has put in two decent performances now and hopefully we have found the right race for her to be competitive in.
